LOVED this Story. Couple Marries 65 Years After They’re Engaged. #diving #scuba

That’s what I call a long engagement.

I Had to Share it With You Even Though it isn’t Diving-Related.

This story comes from the Patriot Ledger, Weymouth, MA. Karl Eric Ericson and Margaret MacNeil just got married on Saturday, October 2, 2010, 65 years after they first were engaged. Karl is 86 and Margaret is 82.

In 1946, Margaret broke off their first engagement – “I was four years younger and got scared.” Both of them married other people and had long and happy marriages– Karl and his late wife for 60 years and Margaret and her late husband for 54.

They had their wedding at the Living Hope Four Square Church amongst children, grandchildren, a great-grandchild, nieces and nephews. In all, 70 family members and friends were there as Margaret’s son, Ted MacNeil served as minister to the ceremony.

Get this- the ring that Ericson slipped on his new bride’s finger was THE SAME ONE she had accepted and returned back to him in 1946. He had kept it ever since, in a box, with photos of them together.

Singer Formerly Known as Fish Sings to Raise Money for Local Diving Club #diving #scuba

There has to be a joke here. Fish the singer. Fish in the ocean. Diving. I can’t come up with anything golden. Maybe you will have better luck than me.

In any case, I came across an interesting story. Apparently Derek Dick (formerly known as Fish, the famous musician) is raising money for the East Lothian Divers (the Dunbar-area branch of the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club) by having a gig.

Dick only recently signed on with the diving club this past year even though he’s been diving for sport for the past 22 years.

He has, he told Divernet, already appreciated the camaradie and diving expeditions which have “contributed a lot to my life in this last year when I was recovering from a major operation on my vocal chords”.

After the club lost an expected grant, Fish stepped in to help them raise the needed £5000.

More information on the event can be found on the Fish website www.the-company.com.
